Jen O'Connell

Jen O’Connell is an artist who creates nature and landscape paintings using acrylic, watercolor and alcohol ink on two dimensional surfaces. Sometimes she paints from photographs that she takes and other times is inspired by colors that provoke her to create more surreal compositions. She currently resides with her family in Cincinnati, Ohio where she roams her local parks and surrounding landscapes for inspiration.

Jen grew up in the small town of Oldenburg, Indiana where she developed a deep love of nature and color. As a child, she remembers how exciting yet peaceful it was to walk in the woods with her family exploring the countryside. Drawing, painting, creating and coloring were some of her favorite pastimes. The artist fondly remembers, “The 64-box of crayons was my most prized possession.”

She attended Indiana University where she cultivated her skills in color theory, drawing, painting and learning from and about the masters. She graduated with a B.A. in Fine Arts Studio and Art History.

Jen has shown her work in juried shows including Art North at Westheimer Gallery where she won a Juror’s Award and Award of Excellence from jurors Matt Distel and Chris Payne, New Richmond Riverarts Festival where she won first place in Fine Arts, Wyoming Art Exhibit where she received Honorable Mention, Evendale Fine Art Exhibit where she received a Juror Distinction Award, Art in Nature at Pyramid Hill in Hamilton, The Healing Arts Project in Oxford where she received a Purchase Award, Putting the Pieces Together Art Show at Maple Knoll in Springdale and Indigenous Gallery Art Tile Exhibit where she demonstrated her talents at creating alcohol ink tile paintings. She has also exhibited at many of Oakley’s Red Tree Gallery juried shows along with Southeastern Indiana Art Guild Regional Art Exhibit in Aurora, Indiana and Art Local in Springfield Township.

Jen also enjoys participating in local art fairs and selling her paintings online through etsy.com.
